Crafts Galore Encore - December 2015 Challenge

Hello all,

Happy December! Yay! Hope you enjoyed opening your advent calendars this morning - I might be 31 but I still have one, hehe.  Henry is very excited about his Thomas the Tank Engine one!

Here is my December card for the Crafts Galore Encore Challenge Blog, made with a beautiful image from this month's sponsor Beccy's Place.  Please do click on the link above to find out more about entering this month's challenge and the fantastic prizes up available.

I absolutely loved colouring this image, I truly did. I found it fun shading with the different red Promarkers, and it came together quite quickly.  There is so much you can do with this image with regards to layouts and changing the size of the image, I'm excited to experiment further with my other Christmas card designs.  I think this would also look beautiful on a kraft coloured background too.

I fussy cut the images and the mounted them to my card base using dimensional adhesive.  The middle poinsetta has a double layer of adhesive to make it stand up slightly further (but would still easily fit in the post without having to pay extra postage).  I used a little bit of my Wink of Stella pen on the middle of each flower too.

Crafts Galore Encore - November 2015 Challenge

Hello all,

It's already time for the November Crafts Galore Encore Challenge, and here is my card using an Art by Miran image - our lovely sponsor this month.  Please do click on the link above to find out more about entering this month's challenge and the fantastic prize up for grabs.

When I initially started colouring this image, I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do with it.  As I was playing around with my dies to see which one would best fit, I thought the circle one would make a perfect Christmas bauble!  If I was to make this card again, I think I would make the image a little smaller so I could mount the bauble onto silver as well.  Oh well, you live and learn!  I also think this would make a fantastic snow globe shaker card with perhaps white sequins or little white foam balls - do let me know if you have a go at making a bauble or snow globe card.  I would love to come and check it out on your blog :-)

Happy Birthday

Hello all,

I thought I would share these really quick and simple cards I have made using some Clearly Besotted goodies and some supplies from my stash.

Clean and simple (and quick!) is totally my style, especially when Henry is running causing the chaos that only a toddler can!  I do have a little confession to make - I stamped all the flowers the night before and cut them out whilst Henry had his nap the next day.  When he woke, he was eating lunch and I was hanging out the washing.  When I came in, he said to me, 'Mama, mama, eat, eat, eat", and I was really proud of him thinking he had eaten all his food.  It was only when I came inside fully that I realised he had reached over the table and was eating my beautiful stamped flowers! Argh! Hopefully you can't see any teeth marks in the pictures...

The flowers are from the Bridal Bouquet stamp set, which is one of my favourite flower stamps.  It's so easy to use and line up, I love it!  I also have used some of my favourite ink colours and they are listed in the 'Supplies Used' list below.

The word dies are also from Clearly Besotted, and I used gold, copper and silver glitter paper from my stash.

Let me know what you think.

I am going to enter these cards in the following challenges and see how I get on:

- Crafting with Dragonflies - Pinktober
- Crafty Friends Challenge - Use your favourite colour
- Little Claire's Designs - Use your favourite stamp
- Speedy Fox and Friends Challenge - CAS design using a large sentiment and tiny stamp
- Fussy and Fancy Friday - Orange, Black or Purple

Crafts Galore Encore - October Challenge

Hello,

It's already time for October's Crafts Galore Encore Challenge! I can't believe where the last month has gone.  The nights are already drawing in and there is that lovely chill in the air which I adore.  I cannot wait to bust out my big fluffy jumpers and boots! Yay!

Anyway, here is my entry for this month's challenge, sponsored by the lovely Bugaboo Stamps.  This month's prize is an amazing pack of 7 digis! I am a mad Harry Potter fan, so these digi's really tickled me. Not only is there Harry, Ron and Hermione, but Snape and Hagrid too.  Brilliant!

I used Harry, Ron and Hermione to make a birthday card for my brother.  Although not a 'spooky' Halloween card, I think these images come under the 'magical' witches and wizards classification instead.  Inside the card, I wrote "Have a WAND-erful birthday!" - my brother loves a good pun!

To create the background I mixed sparkly gold acrylic paint with Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste and smeared it over my Memory Box Starry Nights stencil.  I am just in love with all the different sized stars and the pattern they create.  The stars have a gorgeous, pearlescent, sparkly shine to them (I'm not sure my photographs really do it justice - sorry!) and the paste creates beautiful dimension and texture. I stuck the images onto my card with glossy accents to make sure they were well and truly stuck down!

I used Promarkers to colour in the images, and a list of the colours I used can be found in the 'Supplies Used' section at the bottom of this post.

I think my favourite image to colour was Ron - I just love his flame red hair!

I would like to enter this card into a couple of challenges this month:

- 613 Avenue Create - Anything Goes
- Colour Your World with Lucy Sunshine - Anything Goes
- Glitter 'n' Sparkle - Lots of Glitter 'n' Sparkle
- Lil Patch of Crafty Friends - Anything Goes
- Robyn's Fetish - Square or Rectangle Cards
- Bugaboo Challenge - Colour Challenge

I don't think I've ever entered so many challenges before!  It's a bit daunting wondering what people will make of your work.  Never mind, fingers crossed!

Congratulations

Hello,

Flying in again with a super quick post to share with you a new baby congratulations card I have made for one of my oldest friends, who is due to have a baby girl at the beginning of next month. I am so excited for her!

This is another shaker card, but I have sealed with one with almost industrial glue as the last lot of shaker cards exploded as the recipients open them! Ooops. Cue small beads and sequins all over the carpet.

I am going to enter this card in the Paper Smooches SPARKS Challenge Blog this week - their theme is 'anything goes'. (Apologies there is no hyper link, am posting from my phone. However, this is the link to their blog http://papersmoochessparks.blogspot.co.uk/)

Have you ever had any shaker card disasters?

Good Luck Shaker Cards

absolutely love September, it's my favourite time of year. I love the turning of the seasons and the back to school vibe which fills the air.

September this year is even more exciting for a few special members of our family and friends. My youngest brother is starting sixth form to study his A-Levels; my cousin's son is starting secondary school; my friend's son is starting primary school and so is my beautiful niece. I can't believe where the time has gone!

Anyway, these are the good luck cards I have sent to them. This is the first time I have ever made a shaker card, and I love it! It took a little while to get my head around the different components, but armed with my trusty Cameo Silhoutte and my adhesive tape I managed it. And it is so fun and satisfying to fill with sequins and beads! I made the two older boys grey cards with a slightly more masculine feel (their shaker mix was gold, green, red and blue); my niece has a gorgeous gold, pink and white mix and my friend's cheeky little boy has a mix of gold and rainbow colours to match his bright personality. I just hope all those beads stay put in the post!

I am going to enter the rainbow card into two challenges this week:

- Simon Say Stamp Wednesday Challenge http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/wednesdaychallenge/

Apologies for the unganely links to the blog challenges and lack of supplies list at the moment, I am posting this from my iphone and still not quite sussed it.

Happy September!

Love Hannah xx

Cards Galore Encore - September Challenge

Hello everyone,

September's Crafts Galore Encore Challenge is 'anything goes', sponsored by the lovely Di's Digis. The prize this month is a $12 voucher to spend at the Di's Digis shop.  Please do go and check out her site, there are some absolutely gorgeous images, which are just perfect for card making, scrapbooking or any papercraft project you are working on.

I have been inspired by Debby Hughes and Lucy Abrams this month, who both make lots of stunning cards which feature tags in their design. I encourage you to go and check out their beautiful blogs, and to follow them on their other social media pages.

I have also recently discovered German card maker Julia Altermann too. I enjoy watching card making videos whilst I am doing the washing up, and her videos came up in my suggested feed.  Her blog and videos are fantastic, and she has a great sense of humour as well as bright and beautiful cards.  It was this video which encouraged me to add dots to my design - do check it out!

It didn't take too long to add the white dots around my tag design, in fact, I found it quite relaxing!

I am going to enter this card in this week's Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.

If you have any questions, please do let me know.

Kristina Werner - August 2015 Mail Call

Hello all,

Just thought I'd share with you a card I am going to send to Kristina Werner's Mail Call.  Each month she sets a theme and invites viewers to send in their creations.  She then showcases them on her YouTube channel.  I think this is such a lovely idea, and I have never been brave enough to send something to one of my card making idols before.  Eeep.

Anyway, this month's theme is 'cards with stripes' and this is my creation:

I apologise now for the dark photographs - it is such a dull and miserable day here in the UK.  I cannot believe it is mid-August!

There is a full supply list below, but I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with the gold WOW embossing powder I used to create my sentiment and embellishments.  It is so sparkly and beautiful!  I blended Picked Raspberry, Worn Lipstick and Ripe Persimmon Distress Inks through a ColorBox Stripes stencil.  I love these colours together, they make me think of tropical sunsets (I think I'm just wishing for sunshine, haha).

Cas-ology No. 158 - Precious

Just flying in with a very quick post to show you my entry for this week's Cas-ology Challenge (and applogies if this post looks any different to my other ones, this is the first time I have blogged from my phone!).

This week the prompt was "Precious", and I immediately thought of a new baby card because my little boy is very precious to me!

I have lots of friends who are having baby girls in the next couple of months, so this will be perfect to replicate and send out once their little bundles have arrived! I cannot wait!

Thanks Ever So Much

Hello everyone,

As some of you may know, I have suffered with really bad post-natal depression over the last 18-months.  I have found that allowing myself to have some creative time helps me to heal, stay sane and stretch my brain creatively.

This is my latest creation, inspired by several challenge blogs that I have recently started following.  I really love challenge blogs as they make me think a lot more about how I use my stash.

I have taken my inspiration from the following sources:

And this is what I came up with:

I really enjoyed using these patterned papers (which I've had in my craft room for over four years - I bought them when we were in America on our honeymoon! Ooops!). The sentiment I have used is called Pretty Phrases from Paper Smooches.

I am going to enter this card into these three challenge blogs this week:

- Pinterest Inspired Challenge

- Paper Smooches SPARKS

- CAS(E) the Sketch

I'm also thinking about trying to film a card making video to upload to You Tube... is this something you would like to see?  What card makers do you like to watch?

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Sparkle and Shine

Hi there,

It is almost Wednesday already which means it is time to share my entry for this week's Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge.  This week's theme was 'Sparkle and Shine' showcasing Pretty Pink Posh products if you have them.  Unfortunately I do not, so I just went with what I've got in my stash!

I decided to make this card to send to one of my dear friends who is going to be 31 tomorrow.  We used to go to school together, and I cannot believe how quickly that time has gone.  I do not feel 31 and I am pretty sure she does not either!

I used my Clearly Besotted 'Make a Wish' dies to cut out the balloons from GSilk Luxury Glitter paper.  This paper is fantastic - comes in all sorts of different colours and the glitter doesn't rub off. It's beautiful!  The sentiment stamp is from Simon Says Stamp.

See you soon with another card!  Am excited to see what next week's theme will be.

I also need to get working on sending my cards to Kristina Werner's Mail Call - think I have missed July's one by now, so August it is!

Distress Ink Watercolour Hello

This is one of favourite all time dies from Simon Says Stamp.  I used embossing paste to create a textured background and cut the die out from several layers of card to create a raised die cut.  I used my palate knife to give the embossing paste a textured look rather than a smooth one to add a bit of interest.

To create the water colour look, I added distress ink to a wet piece of water colour paper.  Once it was dry, I ran it through my Cuttlebug and stuck the die cut onto three other pieces of white card stock.

I have already given this card to a friend, but if I was to make it again, I think I would die cut some small hearts from the same water colour paper and add them as embellishments with the pearls.

Cheeky Monkeys

I was just looking through my photos and thought I was share this picture of some cards I made back in May for Henry's cousins' birthdays.

Unfortunately, I removed the stamps from their packaging such a long time ago that I am unable to tell you who made them (sorry! I will continue to look online and let you know if I find them).  I coloured the images using Promarkers, and the sentiment stamp is from Simon Says Stamp.

If you have any questions about these cards, please leave me a comment below.

Tropical Hello Card

After finally getting Henry into bed I have crept downstairs to play with my new Distress Inks. Yay! Having watched some of my favourite card makers (Jennifer McGuireLaura Sterckx and Kristina Werner) do amazing things with them, I wanted to give water colouring a go.  I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed using them and how easy they were to use!

I absolutely LOVE the colour of Picked Raspberry, I think it might be my favourite!  What Distress Ink colours do you like?

Lawnscaping Challenge No.110 - Colour

You know some days when you are crafting and nothing ever goes right? Well, I've had one of those days. Sigh.

I enjoyed entering the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Blog so  much, I found another challenge to enter.  The Lawnscaping Challenge this week is 'Colours of the Rainbow' (it should actually read 'color' but I can't bring myself to use the American spelling, haha).

My first idea was to stamp rainbow-coloured hearts all over a white background and die cut my sentiment from it.  I was just about to load the cardstock into my Cuttlebug when I noticed I had smudged the ink with my finger.  The only way I could salvage my work was to cut the piece in half - and my die didn't fit. Grrrr.

I started again and blended a rainbow of Distress Inks to another piece of card.  I was going to die cut my word and heat emboss the rest of the sentiment this time.  I managed to smudge the ink again, and ended up with dark finger print in a light colour! Argh! More trimming commenced and then I totally ruined all my blending with my heat embossing.  I find black very difficult to emboss with - next time I will just stamp with black ink!  Out of stubbornness, I die cut my sentiment anyway to see if there was any way I could salvage what I had done.

Luckily, the die cut worked, and with a little adaptation, this is what I ended up with!

I added a bit of my clear Wink of Stella pens to the love hearts which add some really subtle sparkle. The word dies are both from Simon Says Stamp and the heart dies are from Lawn Fawn.

If I was feeling brave I might have stencilled the background, added some rainbow ink splatters or added some white dashed lines, but after the amount of attempts it took to get here, I daren't!

I'm pretty pleased, and thought this would work quite well as a masculine card.  I think I am going to give it to my teenage brother who gets his GCSE exam results in a couple of weeks!

Another Cath Kidston / Vintage Inspired Rose Card

Just thought I would quickly pop in with another Cath Kidston / Vintage Inspired card... as you can see, it is very similar to the card I made here.  I used different colours, and used a vellum banner instead of a die cut panel.

I used a clear adhesive tape to stick down the vellum but I'm still not entirely happy with the way it turned out.  How do you adhere vellum?

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Get in Shape

This is my entry for the SSS Wednesday Challenge Blog.  This week the challenge is "Get in Shape" (showcasing Lawn Fawn products) - meaning no square or rectangular cards allowed!

This card is a first for me for three reasons:

a) I always make square or rectangular cards, so a shaped card is a real novelty
b) I have never entered a challenge blog, so I really enjoyed stretching my creative muscles
c) I haven't used this particular stamp set before despite having it in my stash for ages!

Anyway, this is what I came up with:

What do you think?  I think this would also look quite pretty in pastel colours too.

Ps. Thought I'd share this picture of Henry "helping" me stick on my embellishments with Glossy Accents - luckily the lid was still on!

Cath Kidston / Vintage Inspired Rose Card

Our neighbour recently asked me to make her wedding acceptance card for a friend who loves Cath Kidston and vintage style.  This is what I came up with:

I was really pleased with how this turned out, but if anyone has any tips on how to secure vellum to a card without the adhesive showing through, please do let me know! I cheated this time by using embellishments to cover the glue.

If you have any questions or comments, please do comment below.
